El Servicio de Seguridad de Ucrania (SBU) informó que desde febrero de 2022 abrió causas penales contra 70 sacerdotes de la Iglesia Ortodoxa Ucraniana canónica.
El canal de Telegram del SBU indicó que desde febrero del año pasado «se iniciaron 70 procedimientos penales contra representantes de la Iglesia Ortodoxa Ucraniana, de los cuales 16 son metropolitanos».
La Rada Suprema (Parlamento) de Ucrania aprobó el pasado 19 de octubre en primera lectura un proyecto de ley sobre la prohibición en el país de la Iglesia Ortodoxa Ucraniana canónica. Previamente, el Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) indicó que el proyecto de ley en su versión actual viola las normas internacionales de libertad religiosa y puede dividir la sociedad ucraniana.
A principios de octubre se informó que el SBU desde febrero de 2022 había abierto 68 causas penales contra los clérigos de la Iglesia Ortodoxa de Ucrania canónica, los representantes de la congregación son acusados, en particular, de cooperar con Rusia.
El SBU precisó que se presentaron cargos contra 26 representantes de la Iglesia Ortodoxa de Ucrania, y otros 19 fueron condenados. Además, 19 metropolitanos de las regiones de Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk y Odesa fueron privados de la ciudadanía de Ucrania.
La presión contra la Iglesia Ortodoxa de Ucrania canónica, la más grande del país, que abarca a millones de creyentes, comenzó en la década de 1990, ante todo por parte de grupos nacionalistas y cismáticos.
Para 2018, ese proceso se convirtió en una campaña estatal a gran escala, y las autoridades crearon la Iglesia Ortodoxa Ucraniana, compuesta por miembros de organizaciones cismáticas.
Entonces comenzó una ola informativa contra la Iglesia Ortodoxa de Ucrania canónica, acompañada de desalojos masivos de los fieles de sus templos, el registro ‘voluntario’ de esos inmuebles como propiedad de la Iglesia cismática, con la aprobación de las autoridades, y ataques impunes de nacionalistas y radicales contra el clero y los creyentes.
