La República Dominicana derrotó el sábado 8-2 a México para conquistar el primer lugar del torneo panamericano de béisbol U-12 que se celebró en Aguascalientes, México.
Es la primera vez que el país se alza con un título de este tipo y al mismo tiempo lograr la clasificación al mundial U-12 que se jugará el próximo año, en Taiwán, en una fecha aún no definida.
Se recuerda que el equipo estuvo muy cerca de perderse su participación por la falta de recursos para los boletos aéreos del grupo.
Con la victoria, se suman también puntos al ranking mundial a favor de la República Dominicana, que hasta el último sondeo ocupa el sexto puesto.
La República Dominicana está ubicada en el grupo A para ese torneo junto a México, Cuba, Taiwán, República Checa y Alemania.
