El Gobierno de Haití calificó este lunes como «inaceptable» la reactivación por parte de la República Dominicana de un canal en el limítrofe río Masacre, conforme a la construcción de una polémica toma de agua por parte haitiana.
De acuerdo a un comunicado oficial publicado en criollo y francés, Haití «consideraría inaceptable y hostil cualquier tentativa de desviar las aguas del mencionado río para privar a los haitianos de su derecho al agua, en violación del acuerdo de 1929».
Como represalia ante la construcción de un canal por el lado haitiano, el Ejecutivo de República Dominicana adoptó diferentes medidas, en especial el cierre total de fronteras desde el 15 de septiembre pasado, el bloqueo del comercio, la suspensión de la emisión de visados, la prohibición expresa de entrada al país de los responsables de la obra y la reactivación en el lado dominicano del canal La Vigía en el río fronterizo.
En su nota, el Gobierno de Haití reafirma «el derecho inalienable de los haitianos al uso equitativo de los recursos hídricos binacionales» y, aunque sigue favoreciendo el diálogo para resolver este diferendo con el vecino país, asegura que continúa «llevando a cabo consultas y tomando las medidas apropiadas en interés de los haitianos».
«Sólo se considerará apropiada una solución que permita el reparto equitativo de los recursos hídricos, la normalización de las relaciones entre los dos países y la vuelta de la circulación de personas y bienes en ambas partes», subrayó.
Este lunes el gobierno dominicano anunció la recuperación del comercio a partir del próximo miércoles, aunque bajo estrictas medidas de seguridad, después de estar bloqueado desde el 15 de septiembre a causa de una crisis hídrica que ha tensado los lazos entre ambos países.
