El Consejo de Ministros ha aprobado una subida del salario mínimo interprofesional (SMI) de 15 euros, con lo que se sitúa en 965 euros al mes en 14 pagas.
La vicepresidenta segunda del Gobierno y ministra de Trabajo y Economía Social, Yolanda Díaz, ha explicado posteriormente al Consejo de Ministros que «hablar de subir el salario mínimo no es hablar de economía financiera ni es hablar de paraísos fiscales, es hablar de pequeñas rentas que se van a aplicar en nuestros barrios y que van a llegar a la gente normal», y por eso, ha señalado, «es tan importante la subida del mismo».
Se trata de un acuerdo que se ha llevado a cabo con las organizaciones sindicales CCOO y UGT, en el que también se estableció un compromiso para que a finales de la legislatura el SMI llegue a ser el 60% del salario medio.
Este aumento, fruto del acuerdo entre el Ejecutivo y sindicatos, se aplicó desde el 1 de septiembre de 2021.
Sin embargo, la decisión se llevó a cabo sin el visto bueno de la patronal. Las organizaciones empresariales CEO y Cepyme se opusieron a la subida argumentando que no es un buen momento para subir el SMI y que podría afectar al empleo.
