Paraguayo Cubas, ex candidato presidencial y tercero en las elecciones del domingo pasado, fue arrestado este viernes por alteración de la paz pública, según dispuso el Ministerio Público en una nota dirigida por los fiscales Jorge Arce Rolandi y Francisco Cabrera, de la Unidad Especializada en Delitos Económicos y Anticorrupción.
Las fuerzas de seguridad detuvieron de forma preventiva al político -que no opuso resistencia- en un hotel en la localidad de San Lorenzo, a 14 kilómetros de la capital, Asunción. “La Policía le informó. Sin ninguna dificultad se subió al vehículo”, indicó el comisario Gilberto Fleitas, comandante de las fuerzas de seguridad, y agregó que, de momento, Cubas permanece en la sede de la Agrupación Especializada de la Policía.
El arresto de Cubas se une a las más de 100 detenciones de sus partidarios que las fuerzas del orden realizaron esta semana, también bajo el cargo de “perturbación de la paz pública”, luego de que el líder del movimiento Cruzada Nacional denunciara “un fraude monumental” en los comicios.
Además, la Policía envió casi 1.800 oficiales de refuerzo que resguardan la sede central del Tribunal Superior de Justicia Electoral en Asunción, sitio que los simpatizantes han elegido para concentrar durante sus jornadas de protesta, que incluyeron destrozos, incendios y el lanzamiento de piedras en escaramuzas con la policía.
