El presidente ecuatoriano, Guillermo Lasso, se declaró inocente y rechazó el juicio político en su contra por presunto peculado aprobado este miércoles por la Corte Constitucional del país.
«Soy inocente. En mi vida personal, profesional y pública siempre he actuado con recta intención. Por tanto, rechazo este juicio político, que huele muy mal», sostuvo el mandatario durante una cadena informativa la noche de este jueves.
En un mensaje a la nación donde apareció junto a su esposa, María Lourdes Alcívar, y delante de un nutrido grupo de ciudadanos con la bandera de Ecuador de fondo, Lasso acusó a la oposición, encabezada por el correísmo, de inventarse pruebas contra él para «tomar por asalto el poder y debilitar y destruir la democracia».
El pronunciamiento de Lasso se da un día después de que la Corte Constitucional diera luz verde a la realización del juicio político por peculado, pero no aceptó la acusación que también hacía la oposición por acusación.
