Jokic de origen serbio obtuvo 91 votos para el primer lugar. Desde el año 2000 Jokic es el primer jugador de posición se centró en ganar el premio desde que Shaquille O’Neal lo hiciera en el 2000. Jokic lideró a los Nuggets al tercer puesto de la Conferencia Oeste con balance de 47 ganados y 25 perdidos. Sus números fueron de 26.4 puntos, 10.8 rebotes y 8.3 asistencias en la temporada regular. Igualmente, promedió para un 56.6% en tiros de campo, 38.8% desde el triple y 86.8% del tiro libre.
